Why We Serve
“Investing in such a substantial instrument that will be usable for a century makes a statement that we believe in the future of the downtown Kent neighborhood and are committed to it” - Mike Bentz
“This will be an instrument to be enjoyed in the community and even greater appreciation and enjoyment for the people who play it. Encouraging young people is a lifelong benefit” - Marilyn Bowman
As a board, we recognize the transformational power of music. It can bridge divides and create opportunities for learning and dialogue, both as a collective group and within ourselves as individuals. Our aim is not only to restore, renovate, and rebuild a world-class organ, but to build our community by fostering understanding in our wonderfully diverse city. We hope that the Kent Grand Organ will serve as a learning instrument and will be the backdrop for performance opportunities for the next generation of musicians as well as already established ones. Our desire to serve our community and future generations fuel our drive and commitment to this expansive project.
